To make a great video, you sometimes need to provide more context than can be done from just the clip or the audio. It’s becoming more common that people view videos without the sound active. These viewers can miss out on the key messaging when they don’t listen to the sound. So How can you overcome this problem?

By using video subtitles!

You’ve probably seen subtitles on many of the movies, adverts, YouTube videos, TV series and other videos that you watched. You may not have realised it, but it’s these subtitles that help viewers follow along with the video in a number of circumstances. For example, the viewer may be deaf, the language in the video may not be their first language, the viewer may be watching without sound and many more.

So what are video subtitles?

Video subtitles are a written representation of what is being spoken within a video. They are often displayed on screen at the same time that the words are being spoken or they are displayed sentence by sentence to make them easier to read. You may have seen them before with a black or dark box behind them and the text is shown in white.

With Vidds we have great system for auto-generating your subtitles with the flexibility to let you fully customise how they are displayed. You can edit and change the words, update the colours, fonts, size and even the timing of how and when the subtitles are displayed for your viewers.
